Friday’s training was canceled due to bad weather, in which the rescue helicopter could not take off. The sun shone on the Nürburgring on Saturday, but the air temperature reached only 8 degrees Celsius.
The activity on the track was, of course, great from the beginning. Only Lance Stroll was missing on the track. After a quarter of an hour, the team confirmed that it was not a technical problem, but Stroll was not well and missed the training (at that time it was not clear whether he would enter the qualification).
A big problem at the Nürburgring is the crumbling of the tires, which is the result of low temperatures. The riders managed it without accidents. Only Sebastian Vettel spun in the 14th turn and George Russell later ended up in a similar place on the grass, on which he slid, but avoided the barrier. At the end, Latifi also spun at the end of the circuit.
The riders gradually rode fast bikes. The order at the head changed. McLaren, Red Bull and Renault drivers got there. In the end, however, Bottas took the lead. Lewis Hamilton had to give up several of his attempts. At the end of the training, however, he managed to get to second place.
At the end of training, Ferrari came to life. Leclerc took second place, Vettel was also relatively high in the standings.
Qualification for the Eifel Grand Prix begins at 15:00.
