The Last of Us Part 2-Steelbook leaves us puzzled

For the release of The Last of Us Part 2 on May 29, there is not only the normal game to buy, but also various special editions, including an Ellie edition and one with a steel book. However, the latter is currently puzzling us: the cover differs from another one that appeared on Reddit.

The Collector’s and the Special Edition originally contain a steel book that shows Ellie in half profile on the cover.

On reddit However, another variation has now appeared, on which Ellie is shown frontally. The cover is much darker than that of the Special Edition and hides another secret: On the other side there is a portrait of Joel.

Sources like TwistedVoxel assume that this is a European version of the Steelbook, which should also be available as a so-called Steelbook Edition. However, we combed through the pages of various online retailers and always found only the version with half-portrait Ellie and without Joel.

We do not assume that the product images on Amazon and other retailers are collectively wrong, which is why we asked Sony what edition it could be. If we get an answer, we will of course update this news.

What about Joel now?

In addition to the Variant Cover itself, Joel’s portrait triggers a completely different brooding. Namely, what will be his role in the second part now. After he showed up in one of the trailers, we are still not quite sure how he fits into the story and whether he is still alive at the time of the game. His face on the cover could be an indication of his presence.

What do you think of the cover?
