The last fossil VW has rolled out of the factory

Volkswagen’s factory in Zwickau southwest of Saxony has since 1990 produced many of the manufacturer’s best-selling cars. Over six million cars have been put together here.

The factory has produced Passat, Polo and Golf in various variants, and parts for more exotic cars, such as the bodies of Lamborghini Urus and Bentley Bentayga.

Now the last car with an internal combustion engine is manufactured in the factory. Only electric cars are produced here. New Volkswagen ID.3 is being built in Zwickau, and other electric vehicles on the MEB platform will also be built here.

With fossil cars out of the way, capacity is now being established to build the electric car ID.4, which is due next year. Audi Q4 and Seat el-Born will also be screwed together in Zwickau.

1500 ID.3 per day

To date, over 10,000 ID.3 have been built at the factory. With other production out of the way, there is a daily production of 1500 ID.3 ahead when the Golf production line is rebuilt.

ID.3 will be delivered to customers in September. The electric car costs from NOK 351,900, and is expected to become a very common sight on Norwegian roads in the coming years.

Although Golf is still to be produced elsewhere, and a new generation of the model was recently launched, ID.3 is in many ways the spiritual successor to Golf. That’s why the Golf electric car variant is now being phased out.

Today’s generation of Golf may soon prove to be the last sold in Norway. When we asked the Norwegian Volkswagen importer whether they intend to sell Golf after 2025, they said that the ambition is to only sell zero emission cars by 2025. That means in the case that many famous and beloved VW models will become history in Norway in a few years .
