The Lakers in pain, Utah and Miami still in the lead

Five games were scheduled for the night in the NBA, and they saw the Lakers struggling to beat Houston, and Utah and Miami keep the lead of their Conference by winning respectively against Sacramento and Dallas.

Poster of the night: LA Lakers – Houston

Third victory in a row for the Lakers, who climb to third place in the Western Conference. The Californians dominated Houston (penultimate), as two days ago (95-85), this time 119-117 at Staples Center after a fairly close game. The 2020 champions had to wait for the money-time to make the difference, while the Rockets still led by eleven points (the biggest gap of the game) at the start of the third quarter. With the score 100-100 with 8’15 remaining, the Lakers signed an 8-2 that widened the gap, and the Rockets never managed to get back in front. However, it was the Texans who had the match point, since at 119-117, Kevin Porter Jr attempted the “step back” three points from the victory, two seconds to go, but the ball touched the circle without entering it. The Lakers are doing well, and can say thank you to LeBron James, author of 14 of his 30 points in the last quarter. Anthony Davis finished with 27 points and 9 rebounds and Russell Westbrook, who became the 34th player to exceed the 22,000 point mark in his career, with 27 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. On the Houston side, Christian Wood’s 26 points and 16 rebounds were not enough, but it came close.

MVP of the night: Chris Paul

Phoenix returns to a record of three wins for three losses at the start of the season, and the Suns will be able to thank Chris Paul. The 36-year-old leader was indeed decisive in the 112-100 success against New Orleans, the red lantern of the Western Conference. While he returned to the locker room at half-time with 0 points and 8 assists, he finished the game with 14 points and 18 assists! Chris Paul becomes the third best passer in regular season history, with 10,346 assists, overtaking Mark Jackson and Steve Nash (Jason Kidd is # 2 with 12,091). The Pelicans, deprived of Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram, however undoubtedly believed that they were going to obtain their second victory of the season when they led by twenty points in the middle of the second quarter and still of fourteen at the end of the third, but they did not. ‘could not do anything against the Suns (deprived of Deandre Ayton) put back in the right way by their leader, and carried by the 22 points of Mikal Bridges, and the 18 of Devin Booker and JaVale McGee.

The flop of the night: Dallas

Winner of his first three games at home, Dallas could not do anything against Miami, the leader of the Eastern Conference. The Mavericks, sixth in the East, bowed heavily 110-125 to their 19,255 fans at the American Airlines Center. They started the match very well, leading 20-9, but then collapsed against Floridians who are enjoying themselves at the start of the season, and who saw four of their players finish at 22 points or more, a new record of franchise (25 for Herro, who has scored 157 points off the bench since the start of the season, NBA record since 1975, 23 for Butler and 22 for Adebayo and Lowry). So much so that the Heat took control a few minutes before half-time and never let go. Luka Doncic, with 33 points, offered his season record, but he only managed 3 3 of 9 shots, confirming his declining statistics in this area since the restart. (25.5% this season, 32.9% in his first three). Jalen Brunson scored 25 points and Tim Hardaway Jr. 17. This Wednesday, the Mavs go to San Antonio for a back-to-back Texas derby.

Frenchman of the Night: Rudy Gobert

Three Frenchmen played tonight, and if Frank Ntilikina and Killian Hayes signed decent performances in the loss of their respective team, Rudy Gobert was again excellent with Utah. The pivot greatly contributed to the victory of his team, leader of the Western Conference, by a score of 119-113 in Sacramento, by scoring 12 points, taking 20 rebounds and blocking 4 balls. He notably registered six capital free throws in the last three minutes, and blocked a 3-point shot from Davion Mitchell as the Kings could come back -2 to 1 ″ 2 from the end. The best player from last week in the Western Conference continues his excellent start to the season!
