The Kurds are hailing to “turn on the borders” if Turkey attacks them

Report of an “American offer” to expel the “SDF” 30km inside Syria

In light of news of an “American offer” to Turkey to remove the “Syrian Democratic Forces” (SDF) 30 kilometers inside Syrian borders, the Syrian Kurds have threatened to “set fire to” the borders between the two countries if the Turks had carried out their threat to launch a military operation against them.

The commander of the “Syrian Democratic Forces”, Mazloum Abdi, said yesterday during a press conference in Al-Hasakah, in northeastern Syria, that “the US administration officially communicated to me through Brett McGurk (the National Security Council ) his rejection of the Turkish government’s operation”, adding that Turkey, in return, “planned to attack. Abdi renewed his denial of the Kurdish “People’s Protection Units”, which form the pillar of the “SDF”, with the recent bombing of Istanbul. He indicated that they are “ready for any Turkish attack”, adding that “if Turkey starts the war, the whole Syrian-Turkish border will catch fire”.

Meanwhile, Turkish sources have revealed an American offer to prevent the ground operation in northern Syria, which calls for the removal of Kurdish militant “units” from the border to a distance of 30 kilometers, noting that the US ambassador to Ankara’s Jeff Flake made the offer in a meeting with Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar., a few days ago.

In this context, Bassam Saqr, a member of the Presidential Council of the “Syrian Democratic Council” (SDC) in Washington, said that the US State Department had summoned them to inform them of a “new American position” culminating in two statements by the ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense underlining “the need to reduce the escalation”. Saqr described to Asharq Al-Awsat that the meeting was “fruitful”, stressing that “there is no American green light” for the Turkish operation.

This came as it was reported that there are negotiations between Ankara and Moscow that could lead to Russia approving a limited military operation through which Turkey will achieve its goal of securing its southern borders and abandoning the large invasion of the region.
