The koruna is the strongest against the euro in more than nine years – ČT24 – Czech Television

On Friday evening, the Czech currency traded at 24.97 crowns per euro. Compared to the previous conclusion, on the other hand, it weakened by three pennies to 21.99 crowns per dollar. This follows from the data on the Patria Online server.

The koruna was strengthened in the morning by the optimistic start of the markets until the new year, said Patria Finance economist Tomáš Vlk. According to him, the recent increase in the key interest rate by the Czech National Bank (CNB) also continues to strengthen the koruna.

At its pre-Christmas meeting, the central bank raised the key interest rate by one percentage point to 3.75 percent. It seeks to dampen expectations that consumer prices will continue to rise rapidly. The CNB’s key interest rate is thus the highest since 2008.

The koruna reacted to the increase in interest rates by strengthening between the holidays. On Tuesday, December 28, for the first time since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in the Czech Republic in March 2020, it closed trading below 25 crowns per euro.
