This time it is not about the hollow flower queens in Rose Square in the heart of Liepaja. But about the newly opened exhibition of roses in the house of the Liepāja Latvian Society, where hundreds of varieties of this great flower can be seen, and which is complemented by the painting exhibition “Roses – alla prima”.
The road to the rose exhibition leads through the lobby, and there are also roses and other flowers painted with watercolor, oil and pastel. This is the exhibition “Roses – alla prima” of the artists’ association “Art Colleagues”. The title refers to the Italian “a la prima” – a type of painting with oil and watercolor, when the painting is made in one session. However, in this case the meaning is a little different – for the fourth year in a row, “Art Colleagues” holds plein airs in Rose Square in the middle of summer and paints roses. And this exhibition is the result of a plein air with nine artists.
Enjoying the paintings, you enter the lobby and realize that it is a gardener’s paradise – because hundreds of flowers surprise with an incredible variety of colors and shapes. Yes, there is something to look at – Latvian collectors and breeders show about three hundred varieties of roses.
Usually flower exhibitions at the Liepāja Latvian Society House start in the spring – with tulips and daffodils, and continue until the autumn asters. But this year it was upset “know for yourself”, so the rose exhibition is the first this season.
You can enjoy the live and painted rose exhibitions at the Liepāja Latvian Society House on Saturday and Sunday, July 11 and 12, from 10:00 to 19:00 Admission is free. The organizers ask the audience to observe distancing and other precautions – because they want to organize other traditional flower exhibitions as well.
