The island in Siberia released a tens of thousands of years old bear mummy. It is incredibly well preserved

“It is completely preserved, it has all its internal organs, even its nose,” said researcher Lena Grigorjevová from the Northeastern Federal University in Yakutia, adding that it was a completely unique finding of an adult in whom even soft tissues were preserved.

According to her, this is an extremely important discovery for the whole world.

“Now it is still necessary to perform a radiocarbon analysis to determine its exact age,” added scientist Maxim Čeprasov from the same university.

This found bear lived in the so-called Kargin interglacial period there, which is a special period lasting between 22 thousand and 39,500 years ago, the Siberian Times server wrote.

The division of glacials and interglacials (interglacial periods) itself is somewhat complicated. This – the Cargin interglacial – is a term from the Siberian division.

The herdsmen discovered the mummy of the cave bear, whose species became extinct 15,000 years ago, on the Great Ljachovsky Island, which is part of the Novosibirsk Islands in the Arctic Ocean.

Around the same time, according to the university, a well-preserved bear cub mummy was found elsewhere on the mainland in Yakutia.

The Russian Far East has released many prehistoric animal mummies in recent years. The findings are also aided by the melting of perpetual frozen soil, so-called permafrost, due to climate change.

In recent years, scientists have discovered mammoths, hairy rhinos, several prehistoric puppies or cubs of a cave lion. Last year, even an almost undamaged 40,000-year-old wolf’s head.
