The increase in dengue cases in East Java is almost 100 percent

JawaPos.com-The increase in cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) in East Java Province has almost reached 100 percent. During January, there were a total of 997 cases.

This figure is much higher than the cases in January 2021. At that time there were only 668 cases. Head of the East Java Provincial Health Office, Erwin Astha Triyono, said that all parties should be aware of the increase in cases. Moreover, on average, DHF patients are children 5–14 years old.

“January 2021 the total was 668, so it’s close to a 100 percent increase in 2022. Considering that during January there were 977 cases. Due to dengue fever, the number of inpatients in several hospitals has started to increase,” said Erwin Astha at the East Java Health Office, Jalan Frontage Road Ahmad Yani, Thursday (27/1).

Erwin gave an example, at RSU Soetomo, the hospitalization rate has started to increase to 67 percent.

“This is really good. Why is it good? Hospitalization is no longer only for Covid-19 patients, but can also be used for non-Covid-19 patients. We haven’t calculated from 67 percent how many percent is used for dengue fever, “explained Erwin Astha.

The age range of DHF patients is also dominated by children 5–14 years. There were a total of 17 patients in that age range.
