The poll did have a label ‘Insights by AI’, but it was nevertheless not clear to every reader that Microsoft had added the poll with the help of artificial intelligence.
Does this matter to the reader? An unwanted poll is an unwanted poll. It’s not that something is less out of place just because AI generated it.
That is also an AI problem that society is not ready for. Consider the situation in which an AI drives a car and kills a child.
“It was just AI.”
“AI is much safer. Since AI, far fewer children are killed by cars.”
“This is a statistical outlier.”
These are all excuses that are of no use to parents and society, because an N=1 is one too many, whether it concerns a human or AI. For human error, (legal) processes have been set up at the individual level to demotivate and correct that behavior, in addition to compensating for damage. Why would AI be exempt from this?
