The latest addition to the long line of 1 oz., 99.999% pure gold bullion coins minted by the Mint inaugurates a new series dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the famous Klondike Gold Rush, while the The latest collector’s coin inspired by the Ukrainian Easter egg features a meticulously engraved design that celebrates the eternal renewal of spring.

The $ 200 1 oz. 99.999% Pure Gold Coin of 2021: The Klondike Gold Rush: In Search of Gold

In August 1896, Keish (Skookum Jim Mason), his nephew Kàa Goox (Dawson Charlie), Shaaw Tlàa (Kate Carmack), and her husband, George Carmack, discovered gold nuggets in Rabbit (Bonanza) Creek in the Yukon Territory. in Canada. This astonishing find triggered a three-year stampede of prospectors seeking riches in the wild north. The mining boom this caused put Canada on the map as a major gold producer, and the Yukon entered the Confederacy. It even accelerated the creation of the Royal Canadian Mint facility in Ottawa and its world-class gold refinery.

The gold rush also had devastating consequences for the region’s environment and for the indigenous communities that inhabited the Klondike region. These communities were displaced and their traditional way of life undermined, a legacy with which Canada continues to struggle to this day.

The reverse of this coin features the artwork of coin designer Steve Hepburn. His illustration of a miner’s hands holding a gold pan is one of the most enduring symbols of the gold rush. The gravel inside the pan and the water glistening inside it as the material is washed to reveal precious specks of gold are engraved in exquisite detail. The water that comes out of the pan and falls on the safety mark of the coin brings the scene to life. The coin bears the distinctive radial lines of all Mint bullion coins, as well as a microengraved maple leaf with the number 21 corresponding to its year of issue. It comes in credit card style packaging that includes a certificate of purity signed by the Mint’s testing director.

The 2021 $ 250 Pure Gold Pysanka Coin

There are more than three million Canadians of Ukrainian heritage and the folk tradition of pysanka, which comes from the verb pudgy (write), still flourishes in western Canada, and parts of Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritime Provinces. It is a spring ritual in which eggs are decorated with intricate designs and patterns using a batik method of wax writing. While there are thousands of possible motifs, the designs often feature plant and geometric themes.

Crafted from nearly two troy ounces of 99.99% pure gold, this egg-shaped coin features a pysanka design by Canadian artist Dave Melnychuk. The central motif of a rooster is a well-known symbol of fertility and of reawakening. Its tail feathers are adorned with beautiful sunflowers, each flower with eight petals, a number that is a symbol of eternity and balance. The rooster is surrounded by an eternal band (“bezkonechnyk”), with radiant sunbursts representing good fortune and growth. Every element of this intricate pysanka is engraved with a minute level of detail. The obverse of this coin features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, by Susanna Blunt.
