The highest head of VW will deal with the production in Škoda and the battery factory in Prague

VW’s top boss Herbert Diess will arrive in the Czech Republic exactly on the day when Škoda Auto cancels its first innings. Production will stop a day later on Tuesday, in all car production plants in Mladá Boleslav and Kvasiny.

The situation in the company will thus become an important topic of negotiations in the Czech Republic. On Monday morning, Herbert Diess will meet with Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (YES) and also Minister of Industry, Trade and Transport Karel Havlíček (for YES).

“I will meet with him and the Prime Minister, and then I have a business lunch and a briefing with him. I am in daily contact with Škoda Auto, on Monday we will also have a meeting on the current situation with chip deliveries, “said Minister Karel Havlíček for Seznam Zprávy.

The company announced a few days ago that the factory was acutely missing chips. Manufacturers in Asia have significantly reduced production due to the latest outbreaks of the coronavirus pandemic, and factories are lacking supplies.

“Even Škoda Auto cannot avoid this global crisis. We will also have to significantly reduce or stop production in the future from the 42nd calendar week to the end of the year, “said Tomáš Kotera, Škoda Auto’s head of communications.

In the coming weeks, the carmaker wants to focus on completing the unfinished cars that customers are waiting for.

“Our highest priority is and will remain the long-term provision of jobs and the corresponding amount of compensation of wages of our employees,” said Tomáš Kotera for Škoda Auto.

In the end, the shutdown came a few days earlier. In the Škoda Auto representative building, the head of the VW Group will also meet with the company’s managers.

The meeting will also be attended by the chairman of the trade unions in Škoda Auto Mladá Boleslav, Jaroslav Povšík. As he told the News List, this is a long-term planned visit. Individual brands within the group compete for what types of cars will be produced where. “We would very much like to keep four to five models of electric vehicles. At the moment, the competition between Škoda Auto and Seat is being addressed, “added Jaroslav Povšík.

On the first working day after the elections, members of the government are also waiting for strategic negotiations on the planned construction of a factory for the production of batteries for electric cars in the Czech Republic. Already this spring, the cabinet announced that it was negotiating with Volkswagen about the project, known as Gigafactory. The group plans to have six battery factories in Europe by 2030.
