The health authorities are considering changing what in Bulgaria is considered a certificate for the coronavirus. This is understood from the government’s new plan to tackle the epidemic, and the intention was confirmed by Minister Asena Serbezova in front of journalists on the sidelines of the National Assembly.

For the time being, it is known that the change is likely to affect antibody tests for which a document is issued for three months at a rate of more than 150 BAU / ml under current rules. The change would be interesting for at least two reasons: Prime Minister Kiril Petkov insisted on recognizing high levels of antibodiesHowever, there is no scientific consensus in the world as to what levels of antibodies provide protection against severe COVID-19 disease. The antibody certificate is being discussed

“The possibility of an antibody certificate is being discussed, but at this stage we still have no decisions,” Serbezova said, but when asked by Dnevnik whether the possibility of dropping the possibility was being discussed, the health minister did not answer specifically and said in general. decisions “.

She pointed out that the topic is being discussed by an expert council on immunoprophylaxis and the Chief State Health Inspector Assoc. Prof. Angel Kunchev. He has repeatedly declared to the media that he is against the recognition of antibody tests, and the decision for them was made during the Minister of Health in the caretaker government Stoycho Katsarov.

About two months ago, again arguing with scientific opinions, health authorities have introduced antibody certificates in Bulgaria.

Bulgarian versus European COVID certificates

The government’s plan to tackle the epidemic states that in the second phase (with 60% occupancy of intensive beds):

Synchronization of the “Green Certificate” approach with the issued digital COVID certificates of the EU through:

  • Monitoring of compliance with and validity of vaccination documents and documents for illness and taking action for changes if necessary after expert discussion, accessibility criteria.

Serbezova did not indicate whether other Bulgarian interpretations of what is considered a valid certificate for the coronavirus should be reconsidered because of this point. The main differences now are in the duration of sickness certificates, as well as in the beginning of the validity of vaccination documents. (Read more about the differences here)
