Pardubice deputies want the dismissal of the head of East Bohemian Airport (EBA) Hana Šmejkalová. The reason is the extraordinary reward of CZK 225,000, which he is to receive despite the decline in the economy and the crisis in aviation. At the same time, she herself voted on the board on the Board of Directors.

The Zdopravy.cz website informed about it. Shareholders are awaiting approval of rewards for Šmejkalová at the general meeting on Thursday. At the same time, the company is asking its shareholders for another 16 million crowns for survival. The director is asking for a bonus at a time when aviation is facing the biggest crisis in its history, and Pardubice Airport has been struggling with the lack of interest of airlines for a long time.
In a document signed by her as the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors, she is proposed three times 75,000 for each new line that has recently appeared in Pardubice. These are the SkyUp route to Kiev and the Wizz Air route to Lviv and Kiev.
Web Zdopravy.cz however, he points out that in the case of two routes, it turned out that the carrier showed interest in flights from Pardubice itself and the airport did not call him until later.
Pardubice Airport belongs to the army. It has been operating in the civil transport regime since 1994. International transport is provided by East Bohemian Airport, which is two-thirds owned by the city of Pardubice and one-third by the Pardubice Region.

In addition to never implemented plans for a massive expansion of the airport, Šmejkalová has also in the past fascinated experts with the idea of how to do it. In an interview with Czech Radio, she said that low-cost airlines should not fly so much to Prague’s Ruzyně airport. “I would rather take low-cost carriers from Prague Airport and centralize them to regional airports, which are still empty in quotes,” said Šmejkalová.
Thus, on Thursday, the Pardubice deputies will decide not only on the extraordinary remuneration in the total amount of 225 thousand crowns, but also on the possible dismissal of Šmejkalová. Formally, its end must be decided by the general meeting of East Bohemian Airport.
“I have a long-term feeling that the director does not live in the real world. She already started big sci-fi at the council and was close to appeal, the proposal for rewards is further proof for me. The airport needs crisis managers,” says František Brendl from the opposition. the Pardubice group together, which will propose the appeal.
Crisis bonuses?
A similar opinion is also held by the Governor of the Pardubice Region, Martin Netolický. “When we give bonuses for organizing the Smetana’s Litomyšl festival, the people who can be affected by the money not only do not vote, but even leave the room not to put pressure on others,” Netolický said in the Pardubice supplement of Mladá fronta DNES. The region owns one third of the shares.
The loss of Pardubice Airport due to the closure due to the coronavirus epidemic could exceed 40 million crowns at the end of the year, last year it lost 34 million crowns.
