According to him, it is necessary to negotiate a truce as soon as possible. As a member of the Christian Democratic Union put it, “It will be bitter for Ukraine to enter into such negotiations, but this does not mean that you submit, that you cede territory.”

“We must work to ensure that this war is frozen,” the politician said, and such statements contradict the line of the government and his own party.

Kretschmer believes that “Russia’s war is an injustice and a crime”, says – “but it must be admitted that it plunges the whole world and Europe into chaos in particular, and if this continues, there is a risk of losing the economic power necessary for organizing security and maintaining competitiveness”.

REFERENCE. Kretschmer is a 47-year-old native of Görlitz during the GDR, the easternmost city in the country. In June 2019, together with fellow party member, former Minister of Economics of Germany Altmaier and Social Democrat, Prime Minister of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Schwesig (Putin’s lobbyist) went to the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, where on the sidelines he met with Putin and advocated the lifting of sanctions against the Russian Federation.-

He says that with a “Ukraine must defeat Russia” and “we must never again buy oil and gas from Russia” approach, there will be no ceasefire negotiations.

“I strongly believe that we need these supplies of raw materials for at least another five years. Secondly, I am of the opinion that we should try together to to influence the President of Russia, and also to convince Ukraine that together we can freeze this conflict,” Kretschmer said.

He wants Berlin to be an intermediary between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, and not a side gravitating towards one of the countries.
