The Hague issues emergency order for Malieveld, multiple arrests made | NOW

The municipality of The Hague issued an emergency ordinance around 1 p.m. on Sunday. Despite warnings, a small group of a few dozen demonstrators still came to the prohibited anti-lockdown demonstration on the Malieveld.

In the emergency order, people are ordered not to demonstrate and not to come to the Malieveld or the Koekamp.

The police confirm that several arrests have been made, how many is unknown. According to a reporter from NU.nl, only a few dozen people came to the prohibited demonstration. There was also a lot of press on the Malieveld.

At 12.45 a small group of about ten people walked into the Malieveld. The police intervened in this matter.

The protesters then walked to Central Station. There, people responded to the police’s call to leave a few moments later.

The police are still massively present in The Hague on Sunday afternoon. The ME is also set up in various places to intervene if necessary.

The protesters want to protest against the corona measures introduced by the cabinet. A demonstration last Sunday got out of hand when rioters sought confrontation with the police.

Virus madness called for demonstration

The Virus Madness action group had called last week to also come to the Malieveld this week. However, Mayor Remkes of The Hague was here a baton for. The judge also banned the demonstration on Saturday.

Lawyer Jeroen Pols of the action group then called on people on Saturday not to come to Malieveld on Sunday, even though the group previously stated that they wanted to protest on “personal title”. “We don’t want to repeat last week’s riots and therefore call on people not to come to the Malieveld,” Pols told the AD.

According to Remkes, there have been signs in recent days that not only protesters would come to the demonstration, but also “groups that are after chaos and violence”.
