(HUAWEI) – On the sidelines of Huawei Connect 2021, a flagship event organized each year by the Group, a conference was held on African economies following the Covid-19 pandemic. It was moderated by Karl Song, Vice-President Corporate Communications of Huawei, who presented the Group’s outlook in the world and in Africa.

From infrastructure to smart agriculture through decarbonization, a wide range of themes were discussed during the event. Karl Song, among other things, indicated that Huawei will continue to work hand in hand with the public and private sectors, with a view to providing Africa with the technological means – 5G, Cloud, IA – which will lead the continent towards development.

On the training of local talent, Huawei announced a new investment of $ 150 million in groundbreaking programs, which will benefit 1.5 million people in more than 150 countries – including many African nations.

In terms of energy efficiency, the company justified the renewed investment that will be devoted to it by the need to reconcile economic growth and protection of the environment. ” We believe that the digital economy must be a green economy. ICT can play a very important role in this direction […] That’s why Huawei’s products will be 2.7 times more energy efficient by 2025 than in 2019 Karl Song explained.

Finally, the leader reiterated Huawei’s commitment to the continent: “We have been present in Africa for more than 20 years, and we are committed to promoting the development of local communities. We have helped improve connectivity in 28 countries in the Northern Africa region, benefiting 630 million people. Huawei now employs more than 6,000 people in the same Northern Africa region, 81% of whom are local employees ”.

Placed this year under the theme “Dive into Digital”, the Huawei Connect 2021 featured a total of 4 keynotes, 5 summits and 66 sessions, led by more than 200 speakers. Among these, visionaries from the sector – business leaders, experts in cutting-edge technology … Huawei Connect 2021 was broadcast live and in 11 languages ​​on the Group’s website, and included online exhibitions, tours away from exhibition halls and open debates.
