There will be no comparsas contest in 2021. Reunited with Fiestas, the groups have proposed to change their contest for an exhibition. Of course, they undertake to participate in the Coso Apotheosis -if it is held- as well as in the rest of the events proposed by the organization.
If confirmed, the suppression of the Santa Cruz comparsas contest (one of the most important in the world) would be the first major alteration in the upcoming Carnival program.
In addition, and as the SER has been able to confirm, most troupes will not design new designs and will go on stage with outfits from previous years.
It remains to be confirmed what will happen with the adult costume contest, the most anticipated by the majority of carnival men. Some dates ago, some groups launched different proposals to save it. And even a new formation (La Sonora) announced its jump into the ring for 2021. The next dates will be key to confirm a very probable change in the format of this contest.
