The government stands, the division of departments is fixed

Breakthrough in government negotiations Saturday evening – Greens preserved central Ministry of Infrastructure, finance and foreign policy remain with the ÖVP.

The breakthrough came in the turquoise-green coalition negotiations on Saturday evening. The government of the ÖVP and the Greens is thus fixed, subject to the approval of the Green Federal Congress. The two parties had reached an agreement on the last controversial points on Saturday, and the division of the ministries has also been determined.

The central ministry of the Greens will be the infrastructure department, which will be upgraded by the environmental and energy agendas. The Greens will also take over the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and the Ministry of Justice. A green minister will also have its own ministry of art and culture. And finally, the agendas for sport and public service also end up with the Greens. The Vice Chancellor takes over party leader Werner Kogler. In addition to the Chancellery, the ÖVP will lead the Ministry of Finance, the Interior, the Defense, the Economy, the Education, the Foreign Affairs and the Agriculture.

The government program is to be officially presented on January 2. The Greens convened their federal congress on January 4 to approve the coalition agreement. The ÖVP board meets on January 3 to be informed by party leader Sebastian Kurz about the outcome of the negotiations. President Alexander Van der Bellen will swear to the new federal government around Epiphany, after which the Kurz / Kogler government will present itself to the National Council.
