The government plans to extend three highways. The estimated cost is PLN 37 billion

There are new highways in Poland. However, some of those built years ago require expansion. Therefore, the Ministry of Infrastructure is working on the widening of the A4 between Tarnów and the Krzyżowa junction in Lower Silesia (over 450 km) and A2 from Łódź to the Konotopa junction (nearly 100 km).

The ministry announced on January 18 that Andrzej Adamczyk, the head of the Ministry of Infrastructure, approved the investment program for the creation of additional lanes on the A1 section from Włocławek to Toruń (approx. 35 km). As in the case of the aforementioned highways, also the one in the province. Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship is to be expanded by 2030.

The ministry is bragging about it, because when they are already crowded on A2 and A4, it reacts in advance in the case of A1. The point is that GDDKiA is preparing to build the S10 express road from Szczecin to the Warsaw agglomeration. Recently, road workers signed contracts for the preparation of the concept of an expressway from Stargard to Piła.

After this stage of work (will consume PLN 31 million) will be able to announce a tender for the project and construction of 108 km of an expressway S10. The further section of the route is to cross the A1 near Włocławek (North junction) on one side, and next to Toruń on the other. The motorway should be developed preferably before handing over the entire ESC, so that the crowd does not become the bane of drivers traveling along the “road backbone of the country”.

PLN 37 billion for the expansion of three motorways

“The traffic forecast made as part of the Corridor Study of the S10 construction (A1 – Warsaw Agglomeration Bypass) showed the average intensity in 2050 in the range from 64.3 thousand vehicles per day to 67.2 thousand.” – informs Szymon Huptyś, press spokesman for the Ministry of Infrastructure.

This intensity is slowly approaching the value suitable for dual carriageway routes with three lanes in both directions. Just this one belt General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways widen A1 on the section from Włocławek to Toruń.

As part of the preparatory work planned for the years 2022-2026, a full analysis and traffic forecast will be made, as well as a cross-section analysis coordinated with the results of the forecast for the construction of the S10 “- informs the Ministry of Infrastructure.

The ministry adds that the preparatory work for the extension of A1 will cost approximately PLN 2.4 million. It assumes, among others preparation of documentation necessary to obtain an environmental decision and its obtaining. The estimated cost of the investment is approximately PLN 490 million. A2 is to be much more expensive, which was valued at over PLN 600 million four years ago. The most expensive – the expansion of A4 in a difficult terrain, which, due to the need to buy the land, is to consume about a staggering PLN 35.5 billion.
