Anyone who has the status of a communist opposition activist or a person repressed for political reasons will have a pension of PLN 2,400 gross, announced Deputy Minister of Family, Labor and Social Policy Stanisław Szwed.
Such an amendment to the act on activists of the anti-communist opposition and people repressed for political reasons was requested by – as the Swede said – among others Office for Veterans and Victims of Oppression and opposition activists in the Polish People’s Republic.
According to the deputy minister, this solution concerns about 12 thousand. people who have confirmed the status of an anti-communist opposition activist. Its cost would amount to approximately PLN 60 million.
In addition to the equalization of pensions for these people, the bill adopted on Tuesday also provides for discounts of 50%. for the purchase of public transport tickets and 51 percent. travel by buses and intercity trains. In addition, according to the provisions of the draft, the Head of the Office for Veterans and Victims of Oppression will be able to report anti-communist opposition activists and repressed persons to health insurance who are not covered by social insurance in Poland or do not receive pensions and pay contributions for them.
As it was written in the communiqué after the government meeting, “in the years 1956 – 1989, Poles who fought against the communist regime were subjected to numerous repressions and harassments. Arrests, internment, punitive conscription to the army, preventing them from taking up employment or demotion to lower official positions – these are just some actions taken by the then authorities in relation to the anti-communist opposition activists. ” “The repressions had a negative impact on their financial situation – not only during their application, but also today” – emphasized.
