The government is arguing about child allowances. There are many more families to reach for them!

These are also intended to be middle-income families and those affected by government restrictions. But the Ministry of Finance, led by Alena Schiller (for YES), does not want to expand the circle of those who are entitled to benefits.

According to trade unionists, an increase in child allowances could help lower-income households. “Minister Maláčová wanted to raise it more, because families with children are financially beaten. Investing in children is important,” trade unionist Vít Samek is clear.

So far, there is a consensus between the Ministries of Finance and Labor and their chiefs that child benefits will increase by 26 percent. “An increase of 26 percent would increase state budget spending by about 400 million. It targets low-income households that have irregular incomes or work arrangements that they lost during the crisis,” said economist Filip Pertold.

However, Minister Maláčová also wants to improve on middle-income families. The number of children for which parents would take the benefit would more than double. But she ran into the head of the state coffers.

“I’m sorry that we still can’t move in support of families. The next round of debates on child benefit awaits us at the coalition council on Thursday,” Maláčová wrote on Twitter. “I supported the valorisation of that amount by 26 percent,” Schiller added.

Households with an income of up to 2.7 times the subsistence level now receive allowances. From the new year, families would improve within a hundred crowns. Families in which at least one of the parents works, runs a business, is on parental, sick leave, nursing or retired, will improve by at least 300 crowns.

The amendment raises the income threshold for entitlement to the benefit from 2.7 times the subsistence level to either 3.4 times or 3.6 times. This would mean that 250 thousand or more children would receive money from the state.

Maláčová wants the amendment to apply from January. The Ministry of Labor proposes that the Chamber of Deputies approve it at the first discussion.

We need to motivate working families with children, says Minister Maláčová. Watch the video HERE:
