The government examines the inclusion of the Corona 19 vaccine in the case of healthy 50-64 years old

The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) Commissioner Jeong Eun-kyung is answering the questions of the lawmakers at the plenary session of the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul on the 8th in an emergency question on the current situation of quarantine caused by Corona 19, the situation of vaccine supply, and the timing of vaccination. The government is promisingly considering a plan to include those aged 50 to 64 who do not have chronic diseases as a priority target for the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) vaccine.

According to the government and experts on the 10th, the quarantine authorities prepared a plan for priority vaccinations and began collecting opinions. The government plans to finalize a detailed vaccination plan within this month to begin vaccination against Corona 19 at the end of February. According to the plan, about 32.52 million people are eligible for priority vaccination.

In the priority order for vaccination, the elderly in group facilities vulnerable to infection, such as nursing homes, and workers at Corona 19 medical institutions are ranked first. On-site quarantine personnel, the elderly 65 years or older, and medical institutions are ranked 3rd to 5th. After that, adults with high-risk and medium-risk chronic diseases are expected to be ranked next, and those aged 50 to 64 are expected to be included in the priority vaccination target. Police, firefighters, soldiers (ranked 9), living with the elderly and chronically ill patients, and correctional prisoners and staff (ranked 10) are next.

Subjects aged 50-64 are expected to begin vaccination in the second half of the year. The reason why the government considers citizens 50 years of age or older as priority vaccination targets is because there is a high risk of exacerbating serious diseases or spreading them to high-risk groups. Indeed, to date, many of the dead and confirmed cases are in their 50s or older. The government’s plan is that the formation of collective immunity is possible only after vaccination against them is performed.

First, general adults aged 19-49 who are not eligible for vaccination may pay some amount when vaccination. In fact, even in the case of the 2009 H1N1 influenza, the general public who were not eligible for vaccination was given a fee.
