The cycle path between Hombrechtikon and Oetwil will be even more expensive
Closing the gaps in the cycle path network is expected to cost seven million francs. It is unclear whether the planned start of construction can be kept.
For years, the canton has wanted the approximately three kilometers long Bike path gap between Hombrechtikon and Oetwil close. Originally, the new cycle path should have been completed in autumn 2022. To this day, cyclists have had to do without him and share the road with the cars, where the speed limit is mostly 80 km/h.
According to the latest information, construction work is scheduled to begin next fall. However, the cantonal council must first decide on the loan for the cycle path. And the government council is now presenting this loan.
Bike lanes and wider pavement
The government is applying to the cantonal council for almost 5.3 million francs to close the gap in the cycle path. Together with the expenses for renovation work carried out with the construction of the cycle path, the total costs amount to almost 7 million Swiss francs. Originally, the canton had estimated 4.5 million, later there was talk of 6.3 million.
The plan is to add a continuous cycle path to the approximately three-kilometre-long section on the Oetwiler-/Hombrechtikerstrasse. Among other things, the existing footpath between Hombrechtikon and the hamlet of Ützikon is to be widened and a completely new cycle and footpath is to be built on the subsequent section up to the end of the road in Willikon (Oetwil).
A bike lane is planned at the exit of Hombrechtikon, which will then merge into the pavement. Furthermore, the roadway and the curves are to be widened, their radii adjusted and the crossing aids and public lighting optimized.
Close more gaps
The canton does not only want to build a new cycle path between Hombrechtikon and Oetwil. Also after Grüningen there is a gapto be closed. Between Hombrechtikon and Staefa something similar is planned. In these two cases, the cantonal council must also decide on the loan. He has already done this in the case of another gap in the cycle path in the district of Meilen. Two years ago, Parliament approved a loan of CHF 5.3 million for one Cycle path between Zollikerberg and Maur.
There is also a project for a new cycle path in the Horgen district. This runs the Sihlstrasse along from Sihlbrugg station to Sihlbrugg. According to the schedule, construction work should have started last fall. So far, however, this has not happened.
