The government could assess the compliance of Covid-19 restrictions with the current epidemiological situation in Latvia

At today’s meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, the compliance of the restrictions introduced due to Covid-19 with the current epidemiological situation could be discussed, the Minister of Health Ilze Ņķele (AP) has previously stated at LTV.

Previously, the Ministry of Health (MoE) had intended to offer the government on August 11 to relax the restrictions related to Covid-19, but last week Vinkele was no longer so convinced of such a step. On Monday night, however, such an issue was not yet on the government’s agenda.

“We have to wait for the holiday results [inficēšanās ar Covid-19 dati]to see if we can move in the direction of restraint, stay on the ground or climb somewhere tighter again, “the health minister had previously said.

She recalled that “half a step backwards” had already been taken in the direction of tightening restrictions by imposing stricter requirements in the catering sector.

Asked whether people entering Latvia from countries with high Covid-19 morbidity rates observe 14 days of self-isolation honestly and responsibly, Džķele admitted that it is difficult for her to give a reasonable assessment of it, but judging by the infection data, it is clear that however, the majority complies with these requirements, otherwise the incidence of Covid-19 in Latvia would be higher.

At present, there are no indications that would suggest the need to change the restrictions introduced in Latvia to limit the spread of Covid-19, says Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš (JV).

“Now is not the time to relax any requirements. Latvia is an exceptional country in terms of the spread of the disease, because even with its neighbors the disease rates are growing faster. We are saved by the fact that the disease was successfully combated thanks to joint efforts, but with renewed travel. “almost every destination has a higher morbidity rate, there is a higher risk of getting sick,” said the politician.

In his view, there are currently no indications for relaxing or strengthening the restrictions.

With the increase in the prevalence of Covid-19 in Europe, the people of Latvia are urged to carefully assess the need to go to those countries where the spread of the disease is not very widespread yet, the Prime Minister addressed the public on Monday.

The Prime Minister emphasized that there was an increase in the prevalence of Covid-19 in Europe. “If three weeks ago there were only four countries, returning from which the requirement of self-isolation was established, then now there are already about 20 such countries,” Kariņš said.

The politician emphasized that most of the cases detected in Latvia are related to travel abroad. He therefore calls on the public to take Covid-19 seriously, because “it has not disappeared; on the contrary, it continues to tear”.
