The government corrects an earlier mistake. Hours for seniors abolished in school shops

This is the end of hours for seniors in school shops. The government corrected its earlier mistake and introduced appropriate changes to the law through the latest regulation, published on the night of Friday to Saturday, informed the portal Wiadomościhandlowe.pl.

Hours for seniors, functioning e.g. in grocery stores, drugstores, pharmacies and post offices from Monday to Friday between 10 and 12, they will no longer apply in “commercial establishments operating in schools or educational establishments”. Thus, at the indicated times, not only older teachers (over 60), but also children can shop in school shops.

This change will certainly please the owners of school shops. It’s just that, starting from Monday, October 26, children from grades 4-8 in primary schools all over Poland are switching to remote education. This means that the number of customers in school stores will drop dramatically anyway, and that throughout the day, not just two hours. Earlier, remote teaching was introduced by the government in secondary schools and universities in the red zones – and from Saturday, October 24, all of Poland is a red zone.

Let us recall that in the previous ordinances, other exceptions regarding hours for seniors were already included. The two-hour ban on access to a retail outlet for people under 60 years of age does not apply to situations where the delivery of a medicinal product, medical device or food for special nutritional uses to the customer is necessary due to a life and health threatening situation. Such an exception has been in force since October 15, and on October 17 another one was added, concerning wholesale trade.

Hours for seniors – apart from the exceptions mentioned – are limited to establishments whose main activity is the sale of food, cosmetic products, toilet articles, cleaning products, medicinal products, medical devices or foodstuffs for particular nutritional uses; as well as units whose main activity is the provision of postal services.

It is worth noting that the latest government regulation does not provide for changes to customer limits in stores. This means that facilities with a sales room of up to 100 sq m will continue to be available. the customer limit is five times the number of cash registers. In turn, in larger stores there may be a maximum of one customer for every 15 sq m. surface.
