“The foundry will not close”. The words are clear. Friday, the director of the Brittany foundry Laurent Galmard wanted to reassure his employees, a few days after the announcement
the loss of 15,000 jobs at Renault. The Breton factory, located in Caudan, in the
Morbihan, which belongs to the car manufacturer, employs around 400 people.

Following an extraordinary ESC organized on Friday in Lorient, CGT representative Mael Le Goff delivered the news to employees who were sometimes in tears. “No closure of FDB, no plan to take over FDB”. At the end of this speech, several employees and activists of the CGT chanted “We won! We won ! »In front of the gates of the sub-prefecture. “This week has been a week of wrestling. Now the hard part remains to be done, a project to build, we all know that the car market is going crazy, we will have to find a way to diversify ”.

Blocked since Monday by the strikers, the factory will resume a normal rhythm and production will resume “next week”. A “strategic study” will be launched to find outlets for the foundry, which produces raw and machined foundry parts for the automotive industry. The site established since 1965 in Caudan was taken over in 2009 by
Renault to whom it supplies 95% of its parts. The remaining five percent are delivered to BMW.
