The Second Section of the Provincial Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife will host the next Thursday, the trial against the former mayor of Valverde and MP of the Popular Party, Agustín Padrón Benítez, for the commission of the crimes of electoral fraud and prevarication. According to the qualification of the Fiscal Ministry to which the SER has had access, Padrón, together with the two defendants, hatched a “plan to alter the elaboration of the census of inhabitants of the municipality with the aim of obtaining an advantage in the May 2011 elections.” To do this, the defendants proceeded to register, between January 18 and 28 of that year, a total of 61 people what They did not reside in the town or on the island of El Hierro, and groups of people appeared who do not know each other but who, nevertheless, appear as family units in the same address. For all these reasons, the Prosecutor’s Office requests for Agustín Padrón Benítez the penalty of nine years of special disqualification for employment or public office for tax fraud and prevarication while for the A civil servant asks for the penalty of five years in prison and four years of disqualification for the crime of administrative prevarication and documentary falsification. As for the last of the accused, the sentence of a one year and nine months in prison and 5 months of disqualification.
