Ford’s management has officially confirmed the expected report. Production of the Mondeo model in Europe is definitely coming to an end. The current generation will be in production at the Spanish factory in Valencia until March 2022. Ford is announcing this step a year in advance, so that dealers or customers are ready for it in advance.
According to the carmaker, the reason is a change in customer preferences. European sales in the middle class segment have been declining for a long time. In particular, according to Ford, the middle class has gradually fallen by 80% since 2000. In short, customers prefer different SUVs and crossovers.
After all, Ford will also go in this direction. The carmaker has previously indicated that it will continue to be represented in the D segment by crossover. It combines elements of an SUV and a station wagon, it has long been said that the replacement for today’s Mondeo will use a similar style as the Subaru Outback. Ford still counts on production at the Valencia plant. In the second half of next year, the production of the 2.5 Duratec engine, which is now being developed in Mexico, will even move here.
