The Flyers redeem themselves against the Islanders

In the aftermath of a humiliating 9-0 loss to the New York Rangers, the Philadelphia Flyers did better on Thursday, disposing of the Islanders by a 4-3 mark.

Alain Vigneault’s troops, however, came very close to disaster, letting a 3-0 lead slip away in the third period. A goal from Oskar Lindblom, his second of the game, with less than three minutes to go in extra time finally saw the visitors win. Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek were the other scorers for the Flyers.

On the Islanders’ side, Michael Dal Colle, Sebastian Aho and Oliver Wahlstrom took turns shaking the ropes. In less than seven minutes, they allowed the New Yorkers to close a three-goal deficit.

Carter Hart repelled 22 shots in front of the Flyers’ net, while Semyon Varlamov made 27 saves in the loss.

Another loss for the Sabers

In Buffalo, the Sabers suffered a 13e back-to-back loss, losing 4-1 to the Boston Bruins.

The little miracle hoped for for Don Granato’s first game as Sabers head coach has therefore not happened.

Jake DeBrusk scored the game-winning goal in the second period on the power play. Greg McKegg, Craig Smith and David Pastrnak also threaded the needle.

Kyle Okposo was the only one to hit the target for the Sabers, who will try to return to victory against the same Bruins on Saturday.

Without Malkin, the Penguins falter

In Newark, it was without Evgeni Malkin that the Pittsburgh Penguins came to the New Jersey Devils, who resisted a very late comeback to win 3-2.

The tall Russian injured his lower body on Tuesday in the game against the Bruins. Head coach Mike Sullivan said in the morning that Malkin’s health was still under evaluation and that he would miss the game against the Devils.

Jack Hughes, PK Subban and Travis Zajac allowed the home side to contend with a 3-0 lead midway through the game.

Jake Guentzel, however, closed the gap at the end of the second period, but the Penguins could not re-enter the score until five seconds from the end of the game, courtesy of Bryan Rust.

This is only the third time this season that the Devils have managed to line up two straight wins.
