Thales was chosen by NASA to build the first hotel in space. It will be one of the components of the future private space station which will be launched in 2024.
As a major player in the aerospace ecosystem, Thalès was ideal for designing the first space hotel. The French company was chosen by the company Axiom Space, itself commissioned by NASA to build two key modules of the future private space station. At their side, the French designer Philippe Starck, in charge of interior design, as well as the Italian Leonardo, another company specializing in the aerospace industry.
8 berths with a view
The hotel will consist of 8 comfortable individual berths. In his project, Philippe Starck imagines a soft cabin with a screen, storage, a retractable bed and a communication system to the Earth. Without forgetting the unmissable view of our blue planet. If the point of view does not satisfy them, space tourists can always go to the dome, a fully glazed space to enjoy a 360 ° view.
2024 a space odyssey
These first two modules should be docked at the International Space Station (ISS) from 2024. Axiom plans to organize 10-day tourist programs. For this, it has partnered with SpaceX to make the shuttles between Earth and space. The price of such a ticket? $ 55 million.
The project foresees that the Axiom station will eventually become autonomous. In a few years, the obsolete ISS will no longer be the nerve center of scientific research in space. The Axiom space station will thus gradually detach itself from the ISS to become the first private space station.
