In Geoje, Gyeongnam Province, where Hanwha Eagles held the 2021 season spring camp, a considerable amount of rain fell from the morning of the 1st. In a situation where outdoor training was not possible, Hanwha held indoor training and squad meetings on the first day at Geoje Belvedere.
The new coach of Hanwha Carlos Subero did not hide his regrets in his first field training that failed. However, in the current situation, it was a rather good opportunity, and it was also positive.
Director Subero said on the 1st, “There are some regrets, but thanks to the rain, we were able to hold several meetings in the hotel. You need to understand the players and talk with Korean coaches. In that respect, I see it positively.”
From the evening of the 31st, Subero decided to meet with the team. “Through the meeting, we shared what the team was expecting and aiming for. I also conveyed a message to be delivered personally.”
When asked about the message, “I told the players not to be afraid of making mistakes. When you start to be afraid, it puts more pressure on you.” “We all have the freedom to fail. If you play yourself without fear, even if you make a mistake, there are things you grow and gain in the process.”
At the first meeting with the squad, Subero’s most impressive feeling was’Politeness’. He said, “I felt that all of the players were very’polite.’ If you’re a director, you want to be’respect’ anywhere, regardless of country. I could feel the sincerity in that part.”
It also emphasized the priority of’competition’. Coach Subero said, “To win the competition with your opponent, you must first win the competition within our team. It will help athletes compete in a healthy way.”
Player Kiyong announced that it will be achieved by synthesizing both the past data and the present state. “You can’t look at players from ‘0’,” said Subero. Historical data is the result of athletes doing so far. That record must be clearly referenced.” “However, we cannot ignore the eyes of the coaching staff now. When training begins, this will also be reflected.”
He also revealed his own’special challenge’. It is memorizing the names of the players. “I am trying to memorize all the names of the players right now,” said Subero. If it’s too hard, I’ll think about attaching a’nickname’.”
