The new generation Nissan Qashqai is due to go on sale in 2020. The model will receive a hybrid powerplant and will be assembled on the new CMF platform of the Renault-Nissan Alliance. Nissan is also considering abandoning the Qashqai diesel engine to reduce carbon emissions. This was reported by the British publication Autoexpress, at the disposal of which were the first images of the new “SUV”.

Nissan has confirmed that they are not going to completely transfer Qashqai to electric motors. This option is reserved for another model – probably we are talking about the all-electric crossover Ariya, whose name was recently patented in Russia.

The new Qashqai will be offered with two hybrid powertrains.

One with Nissan’s innovative ePower system and the other with Mitsubishi’s plug-in hybrid. The first is already used in Nissan Note. The gasoline engine works as a generator to charge the traction battery, and torque is transmitted to the wheels from the electric motor. A plug-in hybrid system is installed in the Outlander PHEV.
