The first batch of the Cuban Abdala vaccine against COVID-19 sent to Vietnam arrived this Saturday, September 25, at Noi Bai airport in Hanoi, including 150,000 doses donated by the Caribbean country to the brother Vietnamese people, reported the Cuban embassy in this Asian nation on its Facebook profile.

The president of Vietnam, Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and the Cuban ambassador to this country, Orlando Hernández Guillén, received the valuable cargo on the Noi Bai track.

This Friday, the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) announced the sending of the doses through its Twitter account, where it also highlighted that Abdala was developed on a technological platform in which Cuba has long experience, which has been used in the production of other drugs and vaccines that are administered in the country and abroad.

“Cuba sends the people of Vietnam doses of the Cuban anti-COVID-19 vaccine #Abdala, developed by @CIGBCuba. Its production platform has been used in other vaccines, registered in more than 30 countries and certified by the WHO,” he said. the entity of the BioCubaFarma group.

This first shipment takes place after the agreement signed between the CIGB and the Center for Research and Production of Vaccines and Medical Biological Products (Polyvac) of Vietnam, which includes a supply and distribution contract for five million doses of Abdala.

The aforementioned agreement was finalized within the framework of the visit of the President of Vietnam, Nguyen Xuan Phuc, to Cuba last week, where the import approval and use of the referred immunogen in the Asian country was announced, after a rigorous evaluation conducted by the Vietnam Medicines Control Authority.

In recent statements to the press, Marta Ayala Ávila, general director of the CIGB, said that the authorities of the Asian nation are interested in vaccination with Abdala in both its adult and pediatric population.

Cuban and Vietnamese experts work together to transfer the technology that will enable the production, filling and packaging of this drug in the South Asian nation.

Abdala was the first anti-COVID-19 vaccine in Latin America and the Caribbean and received its authorization for emergency use in Cuba on July 9.
