the fire of an old hotel makes four …

Four people were injured Sunday morning in the fire at a former St. Gallen hotel. Firefighters are fighting the flames. Police say it is unclear if other people are still in the building.

The fire started shortly before 9:30 a.m. in the former Friedburg hotel, spokesman for the St. Gallen cantonal police Daniel Hug told Keystone-ATS. The building now houses several apartments and a restaurant.

Four residents were able to go to safety on their own. A man was rescued from the roof by firefighters, who deployed a ladder. Hug said four people may have been poisoned by smoke.

It is not yet clear if other people are still in the burning house, the spokesman said. Three people are missing. The firefighters, massively deployed, have not yet been able to enter the building. Several rescue teams and the police are also on site. At 11:00 am, the flames were still raging on the top floor of the building.
