Eastern police district first reported the fire in Skårer around 3 p.m. It burned in blasting mats, and there was a lot of black smoke.
The police were also unsure of the danger of any unexploded ordnance in the rock, and they therefore established a safety zone of 300 meters from the fire.
The nearest houses and a kindergarten were also evacuated, and all the evacuees were sent to Rasta school.
At 5 pm, the police announced that the fire had been extinguished. After an assessment of the blast site, the evacuation and safety zone are lifted and the residents were allowed to return to their homes.
