The festival “Cello Cesis” will start on Friday with four cello chords – Classical – Music – Culture +

Compositions by Bach, Mozart, Barber and Tchaikovsky in a modern version for four cellos, Richard Strauss’s Spanish symphonic poem “Don Quixote” and the intriguing BB sonatas or opuses for cello and piano by German giant Beethoven and Brahms will be performed.

On Friday, September 18, the festival will be opened by the concert program “4 cellos”. It is significant that the special guest of the festival, the new German cellist Maximilian Hornung, will be heard in two programs – in the opening concert he will demonstrate music in a chamber ensemble, and in the final concert – the talent of a virtuoso solo artist. Together with three other brilliant cellists of the new generation – Paul Handkisk (Germany), Anton Spronk (Netherlands), Sebastian Brown (Switzerland), Maximilian Hornung has created an exciting program especially for the festival with music giant Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Semuel Belle musical treasures in new interpretations.

On the evening of Saturday, September 19, in the upcoming Cello Cēsis Gala concert, two brilliant cellists will shine – the already mentioned Maksimilans Hornungs and Latvian cello diva Kristīne Blaumane, and the musical splendor will be awarded by the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Andris Poga.

In the first part of the concert, Kristine Blaumane, the Italian composer Otorino Respigi Adagio with variations for cello and orchestra, will open the rich and wide palette of cellos. In the second part, there will be an opportunity to enjoy Richard Strauss’s pictorial symphonic poem “Don Quixote”, which will be performed together with the LNSO by German cellist Maximilian Hornung.

Before the concert “Symphonic poem Don Quixote”, at 17.00, in the Cinema Hall of the Concert Hall, those interested are invited to a pre-concert conversation, in which Edgars Raginskis will talk to the soloists of the festival.

On Sunday, September 20, listeners are invited to an afternoon concert featuring the program “BB. Sonatas for cello ”.
