They wanted to say goodbye to their partner as he deserved and they did. The template of the Hospital de Jove Foundation sheltered the family of Pablo Riesgo, a 26-year-old assistant from Gijón, with a concentration in which you could feel the emotion contained in each of the faces of doctors, nurses, orderlies, assistants … Many could not hold back the tears when listening to the letter to which a colleague put voice or the bagpipes that broke the minute of silence.
Pablo Riesgo, auxiliary nursing care technician, had passed the COVID-19 the month of November and in January he had returned to his job in the emergency department of the Youth Hospital. Last Monday he began to feel unwell, with a sore throat. On Wednesday I entered the Central University Hospital of Asturias where he finally passed away, in the FIA, due to a multi-organ failure this Sunday.
His father, Luis Manuel Riesgo, has asked I respect because “Doctors still do not know what it could be, if it is related to the coronavirus or not. We have to wait for the autopsy.” In addition, he thanked all Jove staff for treating his son: “for him they were his second family.” Luis Manuel Riesgo has appealed to those who do not comply with health standards: “We all came out to applaud at eight for months and it was hypocritical. Irresponsible people who do not comply with the rules do not deserve that, if they enter an ICU, they risk their lives for them.”
He also had words for the political class. “They deserve little respect for me. They are using COVID-19 for their own benefit and it is unfortunate. I hope that when all this happens there will be a recognition to all the health workers, “he concluded.
