The fastest car in the world is the SSC Tuatara- Corriere.it

As a child, one of the most frequently asked questions when you wanted to know the information about a car was the following: how much does it do ?. Because speed remains the distinctive trait to describe a car, to know how fast it really goes. Of course, today it is the consumption and the autonomy in electric that hold the test, as well as the harmful emissions. But there is still a host of enthusiasts, but above all of hypercar manufacturers, so the answer to the question “how much does it do?” it becomes an essential imperative. Noble names in international motoring, such as Bugatti and Koenigsegg, participate in this challenge. It is these last two who in recent years have battled on the edge of 400 km / h, to determine which was the fastest road car in the world. At least until today, when the third challenger finally took the field: the SSC Tuatara. An American hypercar, capable of over 1000 maximum horsepower. Full carbon car, equipped with a 5.9-liter twin-turbo V8, capable of developing 1,370 hp when powered by 91 octane petrol and 1,774 hp when powered by E85 ethanol.

A cavalry associated with a very low weight (1,247 kg), given the “footprint” of the car (463 cm long), but above all aided by a highly aerodynamic design, so much so that the Cx of the SSC Tuatara is just 0.279. A series of factors that added one to the other have allowed it to set a new record in terms of maximum speed for a road car. The test took place near Las Vegas and, as per regulation, the final value calculated from the average of the two steps taken. One in one direction and the other in the opposite. At the wheel, the driver Oliver Webb, who at the first transfer in the most favorable direction of travel, reached 532.93 km / h, measured by means of a GPS system; in the other it stopped at 484.53 km / h. Therefore the final average value, the one that gives value to the record, 508.73 km / h. Not bad for a car produced in just 100 units, worth around 2 million euros.
