The COVID-19 pandemic is gaining ground in some countries, where contamination is accelerating, while it is receding in others: here are the significant developments of the past week.

An important indicator, however, the number of cases diagnosed only reflects a fraction of the actual number of infections and comparisons between countries should be taken with a grain of salt, as testing policies differ from one country to another.

India, the United States and Brazil are the three countries with the highest number of new infections in the past seven days, respectively 62,900, 46,700 and 39,600 cases per day on average, according to a report established by AFP on Friday at 11:00 GMT.

The trend is improving for the United States (-11% compared to the previous seven days) and Brazil (-11% as well), but deteriorates a little in India (+ 2%).

Four Latin American countries follow – Colombia (11,400 per day), Peru (8,400), Argentina (6,400) and Mexico (5,400) – among which is inserted Spain (5,800).

Ethiopia is the country where contaminations accelerate the most (+ 82%, 1,400 new cases per day), among those having recorded more than 1,000 daily cases on average during the past week.
