There are only 14 countries that are open for entry from, including Australia, Canada and Thailand.
The extension of the entry ban comes three months after the EU, in addition to Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, closed its external borders for non-essential travel due to the covid 19 pandemic.
Chinese citizens will in principle be allowed, but only if China abolishes its ban on EU citizens.
The entry ban will take into account epidemiological factors, such as the number of new infections and whether the development of virus cases is stable or declining.
