The EU named the main directions of the updated migration policy

“The internal and external dimensions of the migration problem must be considered together,” the European Union decided.

The European Union named four directions of its updated policy in relation to migration regulation. This was stated by EU High Representative Josep Borrell following an informal virtual meeting of the EU Foreign and Interior Ministers, informs Ukrinform on Tuesday, March 16.

“The internal and external dimensions of the problem of migration must be considered together … Migration cannot be considered separately for each country. It is a phenomenon that always links one country to others,” Borrell said.

The main directions of advancement in the issues of migration policy, determined by the results of the meeting, can be stated in four points.

First, EU members cannot view migration policy in isolation from general partnerships with countries of origin and transit, without whose participation it is impossible to solve any problem in this area.

Second, there is a need for a broad approach to the provisions of the EU Migration Pact, which provides for regulatory measures while making progress on readmission issues. This principle should become part of the EU’s overall relationship with partner countries.

Thirdly, the general issues of regulation of migration with third countries and the corresponding agreements should contain provisions on the ways of legal migration.

Finally, the fourth direction stipulates that the EU should take more active approaches to the management of migration processes and in the treatment of refugees – in particular, to focus on achieving concrete results that are possible only if efforts are coordinated with partner countries at the highest possible level.

Recall that the number of migrants in the world has grown by almost 110 million in 20 years… The five countries with the highest number of migrants are the United States, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and the United Kingdom.

A crisis is awaiting. EU tightens policy on migrants
