The EU Commission opens its doors to the maximum gas price ceiling and wants stress tests on critical infrastructures, “The Kremlin has intensified the aggression to a new level”

With a maximum price cap, the European Union would inform gas producers that it does not want to pay a price higher than a certain maximum price for gas. Our country, among others, has long supported such a measure at European level, but other Member States – including Germany – and the Commission are not in favor.

The President of the Commission is therefore opening the door to a price ceiling. He says that more countries have been open to the measure since March, “and now we are better prepared”. Von der Leyen stresses that the measure must be drawn up with care so as not to jeopardize the supplies, fear of the opponents of the measure. And it should also be a temporary ceiling, until the price formation mechanism on the EU gas market is adequate. Now that price is rather determined by the (Russian) pipeline. “The Commission is already working on this,” said President von der Leyen.
