The epidemic is progressing: nine dead this weekend – News Geneva: Geneva news

After the peak, the decline. Geneva has been hoping for an inflection in the epidemic curve for several days. This has not yet taken place. Figures provided by health authorities indicate that the coronavirus continues to progress.

Sunday at noon, the canton registers 2283 people detected at Covid-19, 200 more than Friday. The number of people hospitalized also increased sharply, from 236 Friday to 279 Sunday.

The curve of intensive care patients seems to be stabilizing since their number has hardly changed this weekend (55 cases). But this settlement can also be partly explained by the deaths that have occurred. In the past two days, nine people have died from the virus, bringing the number of victims in Geneva to 32.

The vast majority (90%) of deaths occur in the elderly when they represent only 20% of infected individuals. Of the 32 Geneva deaths, 20 were over 80 and nine between 70 and 79. However, the youngest are not spared from the disease. A quarter of people admitted to intensive care are between 50 and 60 years old, and a third between 60 and 70 years old.

Mulhouse patients

On Saturday evening, intensive care at HUG welcomed two intubated patients from Mulhouse in Alsace, whose hospital is overcrowded. These people arrived in a military helicopter which landed at the Vernets barracks. These transfers are part of the collaboration between France and Switzerland to support efforts to combat the Covid-19.
