The victims of the extremist attack on a bike path happened more than five years ago in New Yorkincluding five from Rosario, were honored by relatives, survivors and consular officials with a floral offering at the place where the event occurred.
The participants in the tribute, accompanied by the Argentine consul in New York, Santiago Villalbathey made a tour of the bike path sector until they reached the site where the group of Rosario’s friends who were celebrating more than 30 years of friendship were attacked.
There, there is a plaque in tribute to the people of Rosario who died on October 31, 2017: Diego Enrique Angelini, Ariel Erlij, Hernan Ferrucci, Hernan Diego Mendoza and Alexander Damian Pagnucco.
During the tour, tribute was also paid to the Belgian citizen and the two American citizens who died in the same attack.
After the placement of the floral offering, the survivors and the widows of the five Argentines who died went to the Consulate headquarters where a painting by the artist from Rosario is located. Ana Perez Grassanoinaugurated for an exhibition that was held last November on the fifth anniversary of the attack, with the aim of raising funds for relatives and victims.
Last Monday the trial began for the extremist attack perpetrated in a bike path in the Tribeca neighborhood, where eight people died (among them the five friends from Rosario) and eleven other people were injured, including the five Argentine survivors.
The only person accused of the attack andSaifullah Saipov, of Uzbek nationality and declared follower of the radical group Islamic State (ISIS), who could face the death penalty.
For the start of the trial, almost 40 people traveled from Argentina, including survivors and family members, to witness and -some of them- testify in the process that will last several weeks.
