As a businessman, Ángel Pérez assures that the only contact he had with his electricity company was when the bill to be paid at the end of the month arrived. For this reason, when he was asked to lead the creation of an electricity marketer specialized in companies, he was clear that customers would have a voice in the new company. And so it is: the direct deal is one of the differential features of Universal Energía, the electricity company founded by Pérez. The other is the 100% renewable source of electricity.

Pérez was dedicated to construction. It was after the great crisis in the real estate sector, in 2008, when he was offered to lead the project. Lluís Artés and Jordi Colomar, his two partners in the new company, came to him for their experience as a business manager, explains the entrepreneur. As the world of construction was, it accepted the challenge and Universal Energía ended up being born in 2015, with Ángel Pérez as the majority shareholder.

Turnover reached 10 million in 2020

Although the entrepreneur points out that their objective is not to grow, but to offer a good service, they have grown a lot in this time. They closed 2020 with a turnover of 10 million euros and they plan to double this figure in the current year. Its clients include small businesses, offices, workshops or establishments. Also public administrations throughout the country and large companies such as RBA Editores, Samsonite Spain, Giorgio Armani Retail or Tallers Tous.

Headquartered in Barcelona, ​​Universal Energía offers its clients an energy advisory service complementary to the contracting of electricity supply. “Each client has a professional with names and surnames whom he can contact,” says Pérez. The objective of the advice is to minimize the energy costs of customers by optimizing power, eliminating reagents, energy efficiency advice … They also carry out face-to-face audits, implement and install the proposed solutions and offer financing until costs are amortized.

“We put ourselves in the shoes of the customer,” says the co-founder. A skin that he knows first-hand as a former owner of an electricity consumer company. At the request of the clients themselves, Pérez says that this year they plan to expand their portfolio of gas marketing services as well. “Energy is a business with a long history,” he says. The ultimate goal is for Universal Energía to be “a benchmark as an energy marketer for small and medium-sized companies in Spain”, in the words of this entrepreneur.
