Two alerts less than six months apart. For the second time in its history, lFrench Blood Establishment (EFS) alert Wednesday, June 29 on a level of blood reserves “historically low” in France with the launch of a “vital emergency bulletin”. “A critical situation on the eve of vacation departures, which could prove dangerous in the short term to treat patients”, wrote the EFS in a press release.

The establishment warns that if the situation does not recover in the very short term, it will be unable to “supply hospitals and clinics with blood products during the summer to treat the sick”.

In a situation similar to other European countries, France “must absolutely regain a stock level of 110,000 blood bags by mid-July”, continues the EFS, pointing out that the stock is currently less than 90,000 blood bags. According to the public institution, “despite the mobilization of donors in June, the level of blood reserves remains too low to face the summer”.

Through this new alert, the EFS, affected by the health crisis, “Asks all citizens to mobilize massively in the next 10 days by making an appointment to donate blood”. He is pointing out that “given the critical situation, all donors will be welcomed”.

Some “10,000 donations are needed every day to treat patients, for whom blood transfusions are the only alternative to be treated”recalls the EFS, calling for a “urgent solidarity of citizens”.
