The Earth’s Core Rotates Upside Down, Humans Feel the Consequences

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia A study found the Earth’s core rotates in reverse. It turns out that the impact can be felt by humans on the surface of the Earth.

Research from China’s Peking University said that at one time the rotation of the Earth’s core had stopped. Not only that, they reported that the spin might be reversed.

They also added that the findings were rotation changes on a decadel scale, quoted from Popsci, Monday (30/1/2023).

For information, the Earth’s core consists of two layers. In addition to the liquid outer core, there is a solid part that is composed of iron and can rotate.

Research from seismologists Yi Yang and Xiaodong Song tries to analyze the differences in waveforms and their travel times. They looked at the Earthquake data for the same line in 1995-2021.

It turns out that prior to 2009, it was found that the rotation was slightly faster than that occurring on the surface and parts of the mantle. But around 2009, the rotation slowed down and eventually stopped.

According to the research team, their findings are related to the reversal of nuclear rotation. This incident occurred in the early 1970s.

They also add that what happens to the rotation is related to changes in surface area. For example, related to the length of the day and also the change in the magnetic field.

Events in the Earth’s core affect the variation in the time it takes for the planet to rotate on its axis. That way, humans can feel the changing time of day.

The researchers also concluded that fluctuations in the rotation of the nucleus correspond to a number of periodic changes. This happens because it shows interactions in the Earth’s layers with one another.
