“The Earth that Sings: Historical Film and Exhibition in Riga”

The opening ceremony was led by actor Andris Bulis, who plays one of the main roles in the film – a historical figure, Rihardas Thomson, who was one of the organizers of the first Latvian singing festival back in 1873.

The exhibition was opened on the square by the Riga 1st Gymnasium choir “Frekvense”, performing such popular choir songs as “Rīga dimd”, “Krauklīt’s sajt ozola” and “Ek rudeni valodiņa”.

The outdoor exhibition is organized by the association “Nameyse” in cooperation with t/c “Origo”. Historian Vita Zelče, musicologist Ilze Šarkovska-Liepiņa and publicist Dainis Īvāns, co-author of the film’s script, took care of the historical content of the exhibition. It includes materials from the Latvian State Film and Photographic Document Archive, the Museum of Literature and Music, the Riga History and Shipping Museum, the Riga Architecture Museum, as well as the study of Egil Zirnis “Riga Latvian Society in three centuries”. Compilers of the exhibition – Sandra Strapcāne, Linda Krūkle and Māris Martinsons, the design was created by Kārlis Dovnorovičs. The exhibition will be on display throughout the summer.

As already reported, the filming of the historical feature film “The Earth that sings” was completed in May. Its premiere is expected in November this year, marking the month of Latvian national holidays.

Vilis Daudzis, Andris Bulis, Ainārs Ančevskis, Andris Keišs, Ęirts Ķesteris, Nauris Brikmanis, Marta Lovisa Jančevska, opera singer Marina Rebeka, as well as actors from Lithuania, Estonia and Poland live in the characters of the film “Zeme kas dīds”. The director of the film is Māris Martinsons, the cinematographer is Jānis Jurkovskis, the script was created by the director together with activist and journalist Daini Īvānus. Composer – Jēkabs Jančevskis, artist Mārtiņš Kalseris, costumes are made by Katrīna Liepa, make-up artist – Beata Ryabovska. The film is made in the “K Films” studio, produced by Linda Krūkle.

The film is supported by the Latvian National Cinema Center and the Latvian National Culture Center, the technology partner of the film is SIA “Latvijas Mobilais Telefons”. Informative sponsors – Jauns.lv and t/c “Origo”.
