About sixteen times a year. That is how often the Dutch get drunk according to international research into drinking and drug use. That puts us in tenth place. We not only drink a lot, but also often: no less than 112 days a year.
–
This is evident from the annual Global Drug Survey, in which more than 32,000 people from 22 different countries were surveyed about their alcohol and drug use. Australians are on average the most drunk about 27 times a year, while they drink a glass of alcohol less often. They only do that in Australia for 107 days.
–
We are also in the top with the number of days we drink. Only in France and New Zealand do they drink more often than we do, at 132 and 120 days respectively. 112 days is not that many, by the way. That equates to about two days a week. With 120 days a year, men drink more often than women (102 days) and transgender, non-binary and intersex people (116 days).
–
On average, according to the study, the Dutch regret the amount of alcohol they have drunk about 24 times a year, which brings us back to tenth place. In fact, the Danes and Finns drink most often without feeling guilty. They both only regret their alcohol consumption 17 times a year.
